Since I have gestational diabetes, should I be careful about what I eat after I deliver my baby?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and I am easily controlling my blood sugar with diet and exercise. Should I continue with my special diet even after I deliver my baby? Or can I finally eat what I want? Why or why not?

The diabetes goes away after you have the baby so you can go back to eating what you want but you are at a higher risk of developing diabetes later in life so you may still want to take caution with that and eat healthy.

What are the reasons why a patient with diabetes mellitus 2 has high triglycerides level?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

And what is the reason why a diabetic patient is still thin even he eats a lot of food?
pls give me some FACTS…

and specific reason!

tnx

in type 2 insulin ( the hormone which utilizes glucose ) is high but tissues are less sensitive to it
therefore glucose is less utilized by the body
glucose is the source of energy
his energy levels are low
so he eats alot
glucose storage is limited to a certain amount , and the rest are either disposed or turned into fat
insulin prevents lipolysis (fat breakdown)
then fat builds up.
and triglycerides are forms of fat

Can the cord blood of an infant be used to cure or treat type 1 diabetes in the infant’s mother?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

My wife has type 1 diabetes. We are expecting our first child and have heard many of the wonderous medical miracles of cord blood. But can the cord blood be used by my wife to treat (or even cure) her type 1 diabetes?

This is NOT one of the "miracles" of cord blood.

There is some promising research into using stem cells to cure Type 1 diabetes, but that work is still in its infancy, So far, diabetes has been cured with stem cells in a few lab rats. [ADULT stem cells were used, not embryonic stem cells] It is a LONG journey from lab rats to humans! IF this proves effective in humans, the testing, clinical trials, and FDA approval for treatment is still 20-30 years away.

I think I may have symptoms of type 2 diabetes?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I’m worried that I may be suffering from a symptom of type 2 diabetes. In the last week I have developed cysts on the bottoms of my feet and hands. The cysts are not inflamed with any redness, and they drain a clear or pink fluid (same fluid mixed with a bit of blood perhaps). The cysts on my hands are quite small but numerous, and the cysts on my feet are enormous.
The only description I could find for this type of thing online is that it is a rare symptom of type 2 diabetes. I’m 25 years old, male, of Scandinavian descent, and I have a slim build. I suspect diabetes because I have been drinking a lot of liquor in the past year. Does anybody know more about the cysts on my hands and feet and if it may be related to type 2 diabetes?

It doesn’t sound like diabetes to me. But the thing is, the symptoms are different for everyone, and also for any of the symptoms of diabetes there may be many other causes. So when a doctor suspects diabetes he orders a whole range of tests for several other things.

I would definitely go to a doctor.

Diet 2 get rid of type 2 diabetes?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I am about to go 2 the store. I found out recently that i am hyperinsulinemia. I need 2 know what foods I should get to help me become healthy and loose weight. Can someone give me some helpful suggestions. What kind of diet should I put myself on to get me healthy and loose the fat?

Losing weight is not an easy thing for anyone to do. For type 2 diabetics it is even harder if the natural insulin is preventing glucose from entering the muscles and feeding them. Some of us lost enormous amount of weight from not knowing. The rest gained weight!! This is the pits part of this stupid disease!!

I follow mostly the South Beach Living phase 2 food plan. If you will lose all the complex carbs and starchy veggies for a while, you may be able to lose weight, control the glucose levels, and be healthier.

Complex carbs are breads, cereals, rices, other grain products, dried beans/lentils. Starchy veggies include most root veggies, peas and corn. Sweet soft fruits are not your friend either.

I eat mostly a 3 oz serving of meat and a large dark green leafy salad with tomatos and some other goodies like cucumbers. I always use real dressing. Fat does not make more fat!!!! It slows down the absorbtion of carbs to where we don’t spike as much.

For breakfast I usually have a couple of eggs and 2 or 3 slices bacon or sausages.

Apples, half a medium with cream cheese dip, nuts, cheeses, things like that are good snackies.

I get Spring Salad mix, tomatoes, any other fruit veggie, apples (tart preferably), and cheeses with my grocery shopping. I raise beef and lamb so don’t bother with meats, but you will want to include some meats.

a 3 oz cooked serving is like 1 chicken thigh or a small hamburger patty. Like about the size of a bar or soap or your closed fist.

good luck!! And remember to walk an hour every day as fast as you can!! takes time, don’t worry about milage, just clock your walk!!

What is the cause of type 2 Diabetes?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I am looking for information on a scientific study that proves the cause.
I am not looking for someones opinion.
I am not looking for information on the treatment of Diabetes.
I am not looking for the cure.
I am looking for the actual cause
I would like the url of the scientific study that proves your answer.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin.

Usually occurs gradually. Most people with type 2 diabetes are overweight at the time of diagnosis. However, the disease can also develop in lean people, especially the elderly.

Genetics play a large role in type 2 diabetes and family history is a risk factor. However, low activity level, poor diet, and excess body weight (especially around the waist) significantly increase your risk for type 2 diabetes.

Other risk factors include:

- Race/ethnicity (African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and Native Americans all have high rates of diabetes)
- Age greater than 45 years
- Previously identified impaired glucose tolerance by your doctor
- High blood pressure
- HDL cholesterol of less than 35 or triglyceride level of greater than 250
- History of gestational diabetes

Is there a special diet or specific eating habits that will prevent my developing type 2 diabetes?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

There’s no one diet that works for everybody. People who are at high risk for diabetes should know their blood sugar and try to keep it normal. They should know their weight and what their ideal weight is for their height and they should work to try to keep that normal. And people with diabetes should know the impact of what they eat on their blood sugar.

People with diabetes often do best to moderate their intake of carbohydrate, because that’s the component of the diet that raises the blood sugar. But people with diabetes should try to see a whole health care team that not only includes the doctor but a nurse educator and a nutritionist, because diet really needs to be individualized and to be something that the person could live with. This is a marathon, not a sprint and we urge people to make small changes that they could sustain.
