Type 2 Diabetes can be a silent disease, without any signs or symptoms.
Things that make you more likely to develop it are being overweight, especially around the abdomen; a history of having a large ( over 9 pounds) baby ( for women only), increased incidence with aging, and family history. Type 2 Diabetes is an epidemic in the USA, probably having to do with our diets, lifestyles, and being overweight.

You cannot rely on symptoms to make a diagnosis, especially during " initial stages". After years of diabetes, the complications such as kidney, eye, skin, can cause symptoms.

The sources mentioned by the other responders are ok, but if you suspect that you or someone you know has diabetes, you should consult your regular health care provider, and discuss it with him/her.

Type 2 Diabetes may be prevented by weight loss and lifestyle changes.

Some symptoms will go away. Others may be irreversible.

Your vision gets blurry, or like in my case when my sugar was high, it got blurry, really bad, I thought I was going blind. When my sugar started coming down my eyesight started to improve, but got blurry again when my blood sugar got to a certain plateau (but still not where it should be) Finally, when I got my blood sugar under good control, my eyesight was normal again.

My father has it. I think I may have it now.

Type l diabetes is when your body doesn’t make insulin.
Type ll diabetes, your body makes insulin but either doesn’t make enough for the sugar in your body, or your body doesn’t use insulin properly.

You can have any of the following symptoms or all of them:

nausea
headache
fatigue
shaky
nervousness
sweaty
increased thirst
increase or loss of weight
increased urination
dizzy or lightheaded
flushed

My husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year. He is on medication, (I don’t remember which one) to control it. The past week, he has been incredibly hungry…he eats all the time. And he is also incredibly tired and is sleeping all the time. He refuses to go to the doctor to check this out; I have argued with him until I am hoarse trying to persuade him. Has anyone else with this type of diabetes had these same symptoms, and if so, what do they mean so I can show the answer to my husband and perhaps get his butt to the doctors.This is worrying me very very much. PLEASE, NO answers that say get him to the doctor, stupid, because I have TRIED! Thanks to anyone who might be able to help.

Polyphagia (Abnormal Increase in appetite) is caused by the cells of the body feeling that they are being starved for glucose (sugar). This happens when the insulin being made by the body is not able to facilitate the movement of sugar into the cell. Basically the sugar is there but the body’s insulin can’t get it into the cell, this can be due to either a drop in the amount of insulin being produced or the cells have become more resistent to the insulin. If his eating habits have changed to this point this needs to be checked by his physician. It could cause complications.

I’ve had symptoms of hypo at 130 before, but I’ve gone down as low as 105 after excercise and not had any syptoms.

Yes, I have had that a lot in the past. Your body can get used to the blood sugar being higher and when it gets a little lower, your body is thinking there is something wrong. Especially if you are insulin resistant, you can get this feeling. Remember that the numbers they tell you to work for as far as blood sugar readings, are not hammered in steel. Everyones body is different. You and your doctor have to decide what is good for you. We were taught this in a recent diabetes educational class that had an endocrinologist as a guest speaker.

ok for a normal person with untreated diabetes does all the symptoms you had did it go away from a perspective?
people are always telling me the symptoms of diabetes. i ALREADY know it i just want to know in type 2 TWO Diabetes does the symptoms go away if its untreated… hey maybe i was eating healthy and exercising, i don’t know just a possible suggestion..
