What is the chance of me getting gestational diabetes with this pregnancy?

My first born was healthy, as was I. My second born was born with hypoglycemia and had to stay in the NICU for several days before I could take him home. I am now 3 1/2 months pregnant with my third. What would be the chance of me getting the gestational diabetes again?

The chances are a lot higher. You are supposed to have the 1 hour glucose test right when you find out your pregnant as opposesd to the standard 24 weeks(I forget when the actual time when every mom is checked). I just had a baby 5 months ago and had gestaional diabetes and this is what they told me at the class they made us take. Start checking your blood sugars now before your next appointment with the doctor.

I had gestational diabetes with my first and they told me that the next time I get pregnant, I will more then likely have it again. So chances are you will as well, I would talk to the doctor though.

it would really depend if diabetes is in your genes. my friend got a gestational diabetes when she was pregnant, even when she was so careful with her diet and her food intake, because, like what her doctor said, there is already a history of diabetes within her family. but the diabetes disappeared though after she gave birth, although her doctor warned her it might recur when she reaches her forty’s. hope that helps ….

If you have it once the chances of having it again are pretty high…but that doesnt necessarily mean that it will happen….Good Luck!

well have you developed it in the past? chances are if you have in the past it might be a concern with this pregnancy. the key to make sure yout gaining the proper amount of weight in this pregnancy. if you are at a normal weight you should gain 25-35 lbs. if you are overweight do not gain more than 15lbs. also the higher the birth weight of the baby could lead to you having gestational diabetes. i would get prenatal care from an OBGYN and make sure your taking prenatal vitamines.

it is higher, but not a sure thing. I had gestational diabetes with my first, but not my second. I was expecting it based on hearing it was more likely, but never developed it. It may be relevant that my gestational diabetes in the first pregnancy was very mild and very easily controlled with diet. I haven’t seen any studies to see if more mild gestational diabetes is less likely to reoccur

I have gestational diabetes.. bu this is my first child. My doctor told me that just because I got it wth this pregnancy, doesn’t mean I will get it with another. So, there’s no way to really tell! hypoglycemia.. is that too much or too little sugar?? Were you on insulin?
