What is the probability of being induced due to gestational diabetes?

i am 35 weeks pregnant and just found out i have gestational diabetes. At my last doctors apt the baby was 4 pounds and they estimated at the time of deliver he would be 7 1/2 pounds so everything was looking perfect. Now with the new of having diabetes, im curious if they will induce me. Is it common to be induced if you have gestational diabetes or do they normally go full term?

My dr will let you go full term if the baby doesnt get too big for you to deliver safely. He monitors the size weekly starting at about 36 weeks.

While lots of babies born to moms with gestational diabetes are bigger, I wouldn’t anticipate being induced. Especially with the start of a low carb diet. Of course, it never hurts to keep an open mind to it since labor can go either way.

I hope you can deliver naturally and have a happy healthy baby! Congrats!

Normally with gestational diabetes the baby will grow very quickly, so they might keep an eye on the babys size to be sure that he doesnt get too big, but im also 35 weeks and I had an ultrasound monday and my baby already weighs 5-6 lbs, so it sounds like you might go full term, but from what I know most woman w/ gestational diabetes end up being induced around 37-38 weeks depending on the size of the baby. Good luck

They only induce if they are concerned the baby is getting too big. They don’t like to induce too early b/c the lungs develop slower with gest. diabetes.
